Dear parents and students,

Welcome back!    I am looking forward to the new school year and meeting all of my new students.   In an effort to make
the transition from 7th to 8th grade a little easier, I am including below a list of classroom expectations and general
procedures for the upcoming year.  The JPAM online grading system (Parent Portal) that we are using this year should
also be helpful for both parents and students to inquire about their classroom averages without an interruption in
classroom instruction.

Classroom Expectations:

1.        Always follow ALL safety procedures during lab work, NEVER removing goggles or safety glasses if instructed to
wear them, until specifically told to do so.
2.        Defer all questions regarding test scores or Grades until after class.   A student may also leave the teacher a
note describing the problem, remembering to ask a the end of class or the beginning of the next day’s class period
about a resolution to the problem.
3.        Be patient and follow procedures when asking questions.
4.        WAIT to be dismissed.   The bell does not dismiss class.
5.        All Property, both in the classroom and other students’ personal property, is to be respected.    Absolutely NO
writing on school property, desks and textbooks in particular, will not be allowed.   After school detention will be
assigned for students who write on desks, and the students will be asked to sand and re-varnish the desk.
6.        All makeup work should be turned in on time.   The student will be responsible for all makeup work.
7.        All class work not completed in class will be completed at home and is considered assigned homework, unless
specifically instructed to be saved for the next day, and shall be recorded in the agenda as such.
8.        All students are to be respectful of others at all times.

Classroom procedures:

1.        Students should have their agendas completed and signed daily.
2.        Daily science questions (2) should be immediately recorded in notebooks during the first 5 minutes of class; in
the event of an absence, these questions are required and should be borrowed from another student upon return to
class.
3.        Notebooks containing all class work and homework are to be completed and will be graded after each testing
period.   Normally a testing period will run about 2 weeks.
4.         Homework may not account for no more than 10% of the students final grade, but is essential in being well
prepared for tests.    Tests will account for approx. 30% of the final grade, class work and quizzes another 30%, and lab
reports the final 30%.

Parents, please email me at JBJennings@caddo.k12.la.us, or call at 221-7676 if you have any comments or
questions.
Thanks,

Jason B. Jennings
